Assessment of Language Development (ALD) is a diagnostic tool to measure language development in children from birth to 7.11 years. The assessment covers both receptive and expressive language skills. Administering and scoring are simple and easy. The results provide useful information about the child's strengths and weaknesses. They also serve as guidelines to set goals for remediation.

ALD can be used to assess the language skills in infants and young children. The test items have been chosen to reflect and assess language development (receptive as well as expressive). Precursors to language development like attention, vocal development are also embedded in the test. Different aspects of language like vocabulary, syntax, semantics as well as thinking reasoning skills as related to problem solving, making inferences) are included in the assessment
ALD is useful for objective measurement of language development in children; evaluating it language skills are age appropriate or delayed; setting goals for therapeutic intervention and for tracking the progress over time.
