Since I became involved in the rising controversy over school values
and organization I have lectured two to four times a week on literacy
and illiteracy, school discipline, secondary school organization and
educational philosophy to parent, teacher and university bodies. In
March this year Exeter University Department of Education asked me
to lecture on Highbury Grove - to deal with the nitty-gritty of creating
one school. I spoke for one hour and was questioned for a further hour
by an interested, amused and occasionally antagonistic audience
(which included Michael Duane, himself lecturing on another course).
Someone then said as I left, 'Why don't you write a book about
Highbury Grove?' Here it is!
