ing on its initiatives in organizing international symposiums in China every year. The International Symposium
held on July 17-18, 2015 in Yanbian University was a success, which was highly spoken of by the partici-
pants of the Symposium.
Through my observation, I believe the symposium served at least two functions: one is that it provided a
platform for scholars from both China and other countries to meet and exchange ideas and research findings in
linguistics, literature and FLT; the other is that these scholars from different countries, especially from univer-
sities in China, established certain academic relations to continue their discussion of research and pedagogical
practices in their concerned areas. The Symposium will be held in Ningxia University next year. Under the
leadership of the Organizing Committee, the Symposium will serve more and more scholars and teachers, do-
mestic and abroad. I also believe that the Symposium will become more academic, more international, and
more professional.
The 90 articles in the proceedings are a representative of plenary lectures, papers and workshops pre-
sented by scholars and professionals at the symposium. Despite the wide range of knowledge and diversified
ideas and researches in the proceedings, the publication of the proceedings will help readers build up knowl-
edge and understanding of their relevant subjects on the one hand, and contribute to the development of re-
searches on the other. It will also help to build up a channel through which Chinese scholars will have oppor-
tunities to share their ideas and research findings in linguistics, literature and FLT with scholars and teachers
in other countries.
The publication of the proceedings is to be highly commended for what it offers to the teachers of foreign
languages and postgraduate students both within and outside China. I expect that the proceedings will suc-
cessfully achieve its purpose for a wider audience in the academic research on linguistics, literature and FLT.
