Until now it has been generally accepted that 12,000 years ago modem man migrated from Asia and Europe across the Bering land bridge into North America. But a wealth of new findings indicates that fully developed man has been in the Americas for at least 50,000 years and possibly for as long as 250,000 years - far earlier than Homo sapiens has been placed in Europe, the Middle East or anywhere else. All of which points to the inescapable conclusion that the proverbial Garden of Eden was in North America and that the Indians were the first fully modem men. The new finds also buttress Dr. Goodman's thesis that new skills were not brought to the Americas by waves of Asian nomads; rather, that any skills and innovations which were transmitted by cultural contact were those of Indians, who traveled from the new world to the old, and not the other way around.
For the Indians themselves, such postulations are nothing new: their legends have always said as much. But these archeological breakthroughs do provide the long sought-after support for the renowned Dr. Louis Leakey's claim that the American
Indians are the patriarchs of the family tree. What Leakey lacked in terms of corroboration. Dr. Goodman has uncovered.
A participant in and director of numerous digs, including some in Leakey's area of investigation in southern California, the author organized and conducted the deepest dig ever in North America, at Flagstaff, Arizona. Dr. Goodman went 3S feet down and found bones, artifacts and tools that prove an active, advanced culture flourished in North America far earlier than has been traditionally believed. Not only have other experts in the field verified his findings, but newly developed radio carbon dating processes have confirmed them.
In recent years the long-held theory of man's origins has been chipped away bit by bit. Now American Genesis deals it a death blow by pointing out inconsistencies, disproving "facts" and offering persuasive substantiation for this remarkable new theory of modem man's roots. More than a fascinating, exciting exploration of our prehistory, American Genesis brings us one step closer to an accurate account of our true beginnings.
