Madeleine Edgar was born in London in 1937 and attended primary school there, winning a scholarship to The Ursuline Convent, Wimbledon. She came to Australia in 1950 with her family and settled in Melbourne. She completed her secondary education at Presentation Convent, Windsor and graduated from Melbourne University with a Diploma of Physiotherapy. She was employed as the Regional Physiotherapist for the Wimmera area of Victoria for the next 2 years visiting 6 hospitals a week.
After her marriage to Tom in 1961, they studied child development very closely, producing 7 children. During this period she conducted ante and post natal classes and did some locum work.
They moved to the Gold Coast in 1980 where Madeleine did locum work, conducted Ante Natal classes for the Childbirth Education Association and worked part time with the Blue Nurses in a Day Therapy centre for 10 years and part time in her private practice. During this period she attended Continuing Education courses run by APA. At one of these she was introduced to the Feldenkrais Method® and was so impressed that she undertook the 4 year part time Professional Feldenkrais Training Program under the auspices of QUT in Brisbane, graduating in 1993.
Since then Madeleine has worked in her private practice taking Awareness Through Movement® classes and giving Functional Integration® (private lessons). She also presents workshops for specific needs such as Back Pain, MS, Osteoporosis, Pelvic Floor problems and Voice. Madeleine loves natural movement. She walks, plays tennis, swims and rides her bike. She also sings and plays guitar.
She has been a Guest Speaker to many Community Groups and talked about the Method on the ABC and Community Radio. She has written many articles on the Method for Local Papers and magazines. Her book Marvellous Movement-ReMIND Your Body using the Feldenkrais Method® Daily – an easy to follow introductory work book has been published. More Marvellous Movement: Move well throughout your Life with the Feldenkrais Method© is available as an ebook on CD with an Audio Awareness through Movement Lesson.
