The objective of the Russian Word Count is to determine the frequency with which words occur in Russian printed material, starting with the second quarter of the nineteenth century and including the modern Soviet period. The Word Count is confined to prose material of general content and thus includes short stories, novels, general periodicals and plays, and arranges the material in such a manner that the data can be utilized for several other purposes, like the determination of the time of occurrence of words within the several periods of Russian literature.
