courses on women and religion , but for the vast majority of people in
religious studies, who maintain a sympathetic interest in the new feminist
scholarship but whose main energies are focused elsewhere, keeping
abreast has become absolutely impossible.
As feminist scholarship has blossomed , its significance has also
heightened. In the beginning it was generally assumed that women's
studies offered intriguing details and illuminating examples worth integrating
into other courses-what some feminists have referred to with a
touch of cynicism as the "add women and stir" approach. Then, as
feminist theorizing developed, the recognition grew that omission of
women's experiences and insights in any college religion course resulted
in a presentation which was unbalanced, incomplete, distorted.
