The air fryer has a heating ring that produces hot air. There is also a mechanical fan that circulates the hot air all over the food at high speed. This hot air cook or fries the food to give the same crispy product as the oil fried variety. The difference between air frying and oil frying is that while oil frying involves immersion of the food into the hot oil to cook, the air fryer doesn’t. It means that you can achieve the same cooking results as in oil frying but with little to no oil.
The air fryer works great for foods like roasted vegetables, especially roasted garlic, bacon, whole chicken, wings, eggs, meat, and fish.
Since air fryers don’t require as much oil as oil frying does, they are generally considered healthier. An air fryer reduces the oil content of food to nearly 80% less than oil frying. It is because the food does not absorb as much oil as with oil frying. However, this difference has led to arguments about the taste of air fried food compared to the oil fried variety. Since oil adds more flavor to fried food as it is being absorbed, it comes as no surprise if an air fried food tastes slightly different from oil fried ones.
