THIS BOOK is about myself, but it is not an autobiography.
It is the story of one incident in my life which lasted seven
years and one month. During that time I was a prisoner in
Hungarian Communist hands, accused, sentenced and held
as an 'English spy'. This in itself was and still is a common
occurrence in Russia and her satellites, and I would not
have been prompted to write a book about it, were it not for
certain unusual features of my captivity. None of my former
fellow prisoners, whom I met after my escape, had similar
experiences.
That is why I believed that my story might be of interest
to others besides myself and should therefore be told.
