endorsement of the “Universitat de Barcelona” (UB) as a specialized professional training project in transplant procurement. The first course was carried out in the same
year in Vic (Barcelona) and, today, more than 15.900 people from 108 countries from around the world have participated at an individual level or in groups,
representing different regions and countries, speaking many languages such as: Spanish, English, Italian, French, Portuguese, Romanian, Persian, Arabic and Chinese.
Lastly, the Council of Europe Transplant Committee (CD-P-TO) and The Transplantation Society, internationally recognized TPM as valid and useful in training healthcare
professionals in organ and tissue procurement for transplantation.
To make this possible and throughout the years, TPM has created its own corporative image, courses design and contents, it has produced a wide range of teaching
material and has created its own simulations in order to contribute to the development of a scientific and professional approach to the procurement field. The
methodology includes face to face, on-line and blended training and the diverse degrees achieved are Essentials, Intermediate, Advanced, Postgraduate Diploma,
Master and facilitate access to PhD. This manual aims at helping in this direction, supporting the learning process of healthcare professionals (mainly anesthesiologists,
ICU specialists, emergency doctors, neurosurgeons, nephrologists and Transplant professionals) together with administrators, managers, health representatives and
university students. It is the result of the experience obtained from a team of talented and expert faculties, lecturers and researchers gathered in a vast worldwide
network that, by means of a multi-disciplinary forum, develop a wide range of topics related to all the steps of the donation-transplantation of organ, tissue and cells
process.
Thanks to the colleagues from all different institutions for the excellent Preface. I would also like to thank not only the TPM Manual authors for their proficient
contribution, but also the providers of many hours of teaching, and the courses participants who, with their questions and opinions, have increased our knowledge
about the donation and transplantation process.
Deepest gratitude to the excellent group of collaborators and friends who made possible to achieve the success of this project and are devoted to TPM.
