For more than 25 years 'Practical Beekeeping in New Zealand' has been the only comprehensive guide to keeping bees in New Zealand. It provides both amateur and commercial beekeepers with details on honey bee management throughout the year, advice on handling hive products and information about many other beekeeping subjects. Now, in its first new edition since 1997, this invaluable book has been fully updated to incorporate the latest information available, including new approaches to beekeeping needed since the parasitic varroa mite became established in New Zealand and changed the nature of beekeeping forever. Enhancing the text is a large number of new illustrations. In addition to being a guide for beekeepers, 'Practical Beekeeping in New Zealand' will appeal to anyone interested in apiculture or deciding whether to keep bees, as well as to farmers and horticulturalists wanting to learn more about crop pollination. Andrew Matheson worked for many years as an apicultural consultant and lecturer, and was for five years director of the International Bee Research Association in the UK, the world's leading information service for bee science and beekeeping. He has written widely on beekeeping and related topics in a range of books and periodicals, and was the sole author of the first three editions of this book. He is now a New Zealand diplomat. Murray Reid has also advised, lectured and written widely on apiculture. He is currently apicultural services coordinator for AsureQuality Ltd, a New Zealand government-owned company providing food safety and biosecurity services to the food and primary production sectors.
