In recent years, moviegoing audiences in a world traditionally dominated by Hollywood have been paying a little more attention to Asian cinema. The focus, however, has been mostly on the films of Hong Kong, China, Japan and India.
The Films of Asean serves as an introduction to a little-known area of Asian cinema. It deals with the craft and commerce of films in seven member-countries of the ASEAN-Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The collection of country reports and case studies should have immense value for scholars, researchers, and the general reader as a historical record, as a survey of recent trends, as an introduction to a section of world cinema that has not be adequately explored.
