This book presents a set of analytical tools for drama. The method consists of fifteen analysis steps that alternate between the whole and the parts of the drama. The demonstration of the analysis tool clarifies each step with examples from world drama.

The book ends with the analysis and interpretation of Racine's Faidra, Sartre's The Flies and Caryl Churchill's Top Girls. The three examples are chosen for different reasons: Faidra for its French classical form, The Flies for its existentialist context and Top Girls for its feminist and political content.

The analysis examples focus on the text of the drama and its scenic realizability, while the author, the contemporary period, other dramas and our own time are a natural part of the analysis.

In this second edition of the book, the text has been supplemented with clarifications and additions. New terms have been introduced and the bibliography updated.

The book is intended for undergraduate students in literary studies and related subjects.
