Walter Rodney was a Guyanese Revolutionary Communist and Pan-Africanist, widely acclaimed for his work How Europe Underdeveloped Africa. Aspects of the Inter-national Class Struggle in Africa, the Caribbean and America, written in 1974, was delivered as part of preparations for the 6th Pan-African Congress, describing the past failures and present tasks of African revolutionaries worldwide.
Marxism and African Liberation was written soon after-wards, and delivered as a speech at Queen’s College in 1975. In it, Rodney emphasizes the relevance of Revolutionary Communism to global African revolutionary struggles, dis-mantling claims that it’s a “European” ideology irrelevant to African liberation. Quite the opposite: the Communist movement makes strides around the world for the liberation of all peoples.
