Sir Peter Kenilorea's autobiography is the most important ever written by a Solomon Islander. It is also one of the most substantial autobiographies by a Pacific Island leader and significant within the context of leadership in developing nations. Chief Minister before Independence, in 1978 Sir Peter became the first Prime Minister, also holding the post on two other occasions. Since then, Sir Peter has held many important positions in his nation and in the Pacific, and is now Speaker of the National Parliament. A committed Christian, his church and family have been anchors throughout his life. He has a reputation for 'talking straight' -- hence the book's title, Tell It As It Is -- and comes from a generation of Pacific leaders who served their nations, not themselves. Over recent years, he has become more and more the sole voice that reminds the nation of what is true and proper in law, and what were the intentions of the generation that established the modern Solomon Islands in the 1970s. His autobiography has been written to mark the thirtieth anniversary of Independence in 2008.
