This book presents a good overview of the present knowledge of the North Seaecosystem. The combination of comprehensive ecosystem data and contaminant concentration data together with the use of numerical models for their interpretation is unique in this form. "Circulation and Contaminant Fluxes in the North Sea" presents the results of the interdisciplinary German research project ZISCH ("Zirkulation und Schadstoffumsatz in der Nordsee"), which was established in view of the threat to the North Sea environment by human activities and the need to give policymakers a scientific basis for the difficult decisions which will have to be made in the next years.
