The European Seminar on Methodology in Israel's history has spent a number of years debating historical method. This volume focuses very specifically on Sennacherib's invasion of Judah in 701 BCE. With information from a variety of sources - archaeological, biblical, Assyrian, Egyptian, and possibly Greek - Sennacherib's campaign should serve as a useful case study to investigate the question of historicity. The contributors to this volume examine the problem from a variety of points of view, with vigorous discussion about the correct way to evaluate the biblical text. The volume should make an important contribution to the on-going debate about how to write the history of ancient Israel.
