Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are opening up exciting new applications in the area of white lighting and displays. OLEDs have low power consumption, as they emit their own light.  They are made of flexible films, which allow them to be used for curved displays, providing an advantage over LCDs and plasma screens.  Today OLEDs are found in smartphones, digital cameras and PDAs. Part two discusses topics such as highly efficient pin-type OLEDs, amorphous organic semiconductors, nanostructuring techniques, light extraction, color tuning, printing techniques, fluorenone defects and disruptive characteristics as well as durability issues. The concluding section explores the applications of OLEDs in displays and solid-state lighting, such as displays, microdisplays and transparent OLEDs, sensors and large-area OLED lighting panels.
