جزییات کتاب
The theme of this work has been much illuminated by the excavations and studies of F. K. Dörner relating to that part of Turkey which was once Commagene, and the author's initial advantage was to have participated in the 1968 excavations. Afterwards he essayed the task of establishing the text of a weather-worn stela in the hierothesion of King Mithradates I Callinicus in Eski Kâhta and found that this involved a comparison with the other cult-texts from Commagene; such a process prompted the present welcome publication of the great majority of the texts inscribed on monuments erected by this king and by his successor and son Antiochus I. The work is planned in three parts: in the first two the texts of the cult-places and of the hierothesia are presented with descriptions and comments and sometimes translations, while in the third part discussion is devoted to questions and problems arising. Indexes include a valuable wordindex of the texts; and the plates, which vary in quality, end the volume. A frontispiece illustrates the grandeur of the landscapes; it relates to the region near Arsameia on the Nymphaeus.
