From Booklist Peters details his successes and failures as the host of the reality television program Stranded. More specifically, the program dumps Peters into an exotic locale and asks him—in a disingenuous, heavily produced way—to survive without money or guidance. The book mocks this premise more than celebrates it, though Peters seems genuinely proud of his work at times. His tone is consistently cynical and self-deprecating, occasionally spiking into the manic. He uses as many exclamation points as an NPR commentator. Peters will strain too far for a joke, and his footnotes and asides deliver infrequently. Rarely does he allow a scene to develop. He is most successful in small moments, employing a clever, alert demeanor that doesn’t take itself too seriously, as he does upon reaching an early destination: “Following a short taxi along a surprisingly smooth, freshly mown runway, the propellers’ last few guttural sputters give way to total silence, interrupted only by the occasional buzz of an insect or a bird’s staccato trill.” Of most interest to fans of the show. Review “A riotous and engaging read.” —*Library Journal * “Illustrated by one hilarious descent into madness after another.” —*Kirkus Reviews * "Only Cash Peters would go on such an absurd adventure and capture it so winningly. Beautiful language, great humor." —Phil Doran, author of *The Reluctant Tuscan * “Cash Peters is our generation's Alistair Cooke - a travel writer who sees things none of us would see ourselves if we were there. Of course, sometimes you wish he'd just kept his eyes shut." —Kitty Felde, KPCC Radio “In one epic, horrifying, funny lurch across the planet, Peters manages to utterly trash the well-meaning efforts of generations of sensitive, sincere travelers. *Naked in Dangerous Places* is a running riot." —Tony Cohan, author of *On Mexican Time* and *Mexican Days * “Peters is a national treasure, with a wicked sense of humor that guarantees he’ll never be asked to host a television show again. The world of travel literature, however, is all the richer for having him.” —Rudy Maxa, host, “Rudy Maxa’s World,” PBS “Great explorers possess bravery, a cast-iron stomach, and insatiable curiosity about what lies around the next bend. Cash Peters has none of these attributes. But he is very, very funny, and his misadventures in exotic locales make for the best travel writing I have read in years.” —Peter Allison, author of *Whatever You Do, Don’t Run * “Like most travelers, but too few travel writers, Cash Peters understands that nightmares are twice as entertaining as dreams—especially when they come true. Peters’s iconoclastic charm unaccountably fails to seduce South Seas cannibals and Hollywood producers, but proves a winner in this sharp-witted recap of two years in the company of such exotic and dangerous creatures. Someone should make a TV show out of it.” —Chuck Thompson, author of *Smile When You’re Lying * “It takes a clever new hook to grab and maintain my attention when it comes to travel writing. *Naked in Dangerous* *Places *is fascinating, funny, and endearing.” —Doug Lansky, editor of *There’s No Toilet Paper . . .on the Road Less Traveled*
