The author challenges and questions the arguments that have been made in support of continued large-scale immigration to the United States. He suggests that "a large majority of Americans are troubled by current immigration and would like to see it reduced, but they are perplexed and intimidated by the never-ending stream of cliches, myths, catch-phrases and fallacies, disseminated by the news media and other powerful institutions, that are used to promote it. In the following pages I will critically examine a number of these slogans from a variety of angles... I will seek to expose the false premises, the deceptive assertions, the illogical leaps of thought, and the brain-numbing sentiments by which the immigrationists have kept America in thrall."
